This was the greatest interview — I was there — I think the back of my head in the second row was shown a few times.
His talk truly revolutionized my idea of pastorate and seminary — his opinion that all pastors should spend the first year of seminary reading great works of literature. Amen!
His Eat This Book is a must-read. And I loved his reasoning for enjoying Joyce and finding helpful hints in Ulysses.
And his thin about Bono — “Dean, it was Isaiah!” Too funny.
Dean Nelson was kind enough to share his office with me when I was a startving adjunct in the lit dept of Point Loma. I still can’t get used to seeing him in a tie….
