Resurrection Sunday 2017

Resurrection Sunday 2017

Resurrection, Pontormo

This holy and blessed day is the first day of the week, the king and master of all days, the feast of feasts and the season of seasons. On this day we bless Christ forever and ever.

O faithful, come on this day of the glorious resurrection; let us drink the wine of the new vine-yard, of the divine joy, of the kingdom of Christ! Let us praise him as our God for ever and ever.

  1. What do you expect from someone with the handle “Darth Beavis”?

All that’s missing is his Sith-pupil Darth Butthead.

  2. We do indeed. When we added the Paschal Hours back in where they belong after Matins, I put a big disclaimer in front of them that there was a whole liturgy after them and tired people should rest here. (At worst I could just chant them if no one jumps in.) I’ve never seen anyone actually take me up on that though!

I appreciate our neighbors, they don’t mind our late night bell ringing once a year. =)

  3. Paschal blessings to you and your niece, your priest, your deacon, your parishioners, the Baptists down the road, the heedless in their beds, and the cop on the midnight shift.

If you were starting the Liturgy at 2am, you must have some stalwart folk in your parish.

  4. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

Today seems like the best day of the year to find unity.

  5. Also, hell is embittered! =)

My niece joined me for the first time, but she passed out about 2am after making it through the end of the paschal hours. I figure singing 2 hours is pretty good for a 10 year old!

  6. “…..O Death, where is your sting?
O Hell, where is your victory?
Christ is risen, and you are overthrown.
Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen.
Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice.
Christ is risen, and life reigns.
Christ is risen, and not one dead remains in the grave.
For Christ, being risen from the dead, is become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
To Him be glory and dominion unto ages of ages.
    Amen.”

  8. “if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that He raised Christ from the dead. But He did not raise Him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins, and those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

  9. Home from the Pascha Liturgy
The moon, stars, and night breezes are all Orthodox tonight.

  11. Said I would write again, Food helps the brain, maybe?

    Light’s glittering morn
red clouds, pale moon watches dawn
    Mary comes to look

    ‘Noli me tangere’
To the Father I must go
    Mary cries for joy

    Mary cries ‘He lives’
    silver moon watches us all
    we run to the tomb

    Do all now believe?
    Time will show our certainty
    Doubting fingers pause…..

It’s mid-afternoon in eastern Australia (the Son rises earlier here ;P) and I’m cooking a leg of lamb. Wishing all of you a blessed Easter.

  13. Jesus has broken the gates of hell and is Resurrected where I live.
(A spectacular red sunrise was a ‘gasp’ of beauty. It was so much a He is Risen experience.
Such joy shared with the so many gathered for the Easter Liturgy..
I can only imagine our joy when are resurrected to be with Him in Paradise forever.

I wish all a very Happy and Holy Easter.

    (More later, I need food!)
