Dorothy Atherton Spencer 1922-2006

My mother passed away this morning at 2:10 a.m. I will be off blog for several days. Comments may not be moderated. Thanks for your prayers and patience.

I prayed this prayer for my mom dozens of times the last few hours:

Christian Soul, depart and go to God. Lord, receive this, your child, made in your image, purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ, baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Receive her, your own daughter, who has trusted you in life and now trusts you in death. In Jesus name, receive her into the Kingdom of Light with all the saints and angels to welcome her. Amen

  1. Well, Irenicum beat me to using the phrase “vale of tears”, but that seems an apropos description of life, the older I get. Having lost both our fathers in the past three years, my wife & I understand what you’re going through. (Sometimes it feels like everyone I’ve admired is passing from this life…) I know it’s been a couple of weeks now, but be assured that we continue to think about and pray for you.

One day it will be our turn. We will step beyond this vale into everlasting joy in the presence of our Lord and Savior, where there will be no more weeping nor sorrow. I say, bring it on!!!

  4. I’m so sorry, and yet I too know the relief that comes when our mother’s struggles are finally released from this veil of tears. Our mothers are both rejoicing in ways inexpressible to us now. But they look upon us with a wry smile and a twinkle in their eyes, knowing that our ultimate joys are but just before us, and then we will rejoice together for all eternity. Blessings brother in this nonetheless difficult time.

  9. Michael,

May God give you and your family grace and peace through this difficult time. Thank you for all that you have given to the church at large with your writing (I can’t begin to say how much it has helped me) and I hope you feel supported in return.
