Speaking of singers—prayers for John Prine, who is in critical condition with presumed covid-19, and on a ventilator. He’s 73 years old and had part of a lung removed in 2013 from cancer.
I have a second cousin who is the minister of a small rural Georgia church and they had services today on Google hangout. Using this system the video comes on when you talk or make a sound so there were a couple of embarrassing moments when some folks not familiar with the technology didn’t mute their connection and didn’t dress up for the occasion.
(this is off-topic — but can’t seem to find the “Internet Monk” email address — but I would like VERY much to comment on an earlier blog “The Lutheran Church and Creation Days”
Here is my comment:
“I found this interesting Internet Monk blog today (29 March 2020). What I find so disturbing about the 2019 LCMS convention — and in much of the comments in this blog — is that the old old debate on creationism was/is SO important at a time when the US government horribly, cruelly was/is tearing small children away from their parents and then — through gross incompetence — actually “losing” them — and even deporting their parents without them. Yet creationism is the hot topic.
How well I remember many, many, many LCMS Sunday School lessons about “Jesus’ little lambs”. Is the LCMS again hiding behind the old “two solitudes” defense — as Lutherans idd during the 1930s and 1940s in Germany? I think Christ would weep. What has happened to the LCMS?
so here’s the Holy Gospel of St. John, chapter 11:
“18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . “30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.
34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35 Jesus wept.
36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?”
